Peter Cooper, PT, MS Co-owner

Although originally ‘from away’, my Maine roots took hold in 1977 when I entered Bowdoin College and received my Bachelor’s Degree four years later.  My physical therapy training required a return to city life and, in 1986; I earned a Master in Physical Therapy degree from Boston University.

My first years in practice were spent working in hospital settings, where I learned a great deal from treating a wide range of patients, including those with complex orthopedic issues, burn patients, patients with neurological issues and much more.  Gradually my interest turned to outpatient orthopedics and I joined Greater Brunswick Physical Therapy in 1990.   I have always valued my early training and feel it has helped shape my approach to patient care.  I see patients “as a whole”, not as an ankle, low back or shoulder.  This philosophy of care was greatly expanded upon by joining GBPT and through my post graduate studies.  I now see patients as equal parts physical, spiritual and emotional, and feel the best outcome is achieved when all these areas are honored and attended to.

Currently my professional focus is to help navigate the many changes and challenges of  GBPT’s growth and of the ‘health care evolution’, but a return to patient care is definitely on my radar screen.  When not working, time with my wife and two children is always first and foremost but I also enjoy getting away to backpack and, with my good friend from high school, have been section hiking the Appalachian Trail in Maine for many years.  On my ‘bucket list’ is the wish to tackle the entire AT, from Georgia to Maine, and continue to enjoy many other outdoor activities.  I feel very fortunate to have found a fulfilling career, a great place to work and a dedicated, compassionate group of people to work with.
